Whoopi Goldberg is an American professional actor, comedian author, and television personality. She is a receiver of numerous accolades. Whoopi is one of 16 entertainers to win the Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, an Academy Award, and a Tony Award (EGOT).

She started her career in 1983 with her one-woman show, Spook Show. The show transferred to Broadway under the title Whoopi Goldberg from 1984 to 1985. After recording the show she won Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album.

Uta Hagen trained Whoopi at the HB Studio in New York City. In 1982 she appeared on screen in Citizen: I’m Not Losing My Mind, I’m Giving It Away for the first time. The film was directed by William Farley a San Francisco filmmaker. In 1983 Whoopi created The Spook Show. The show was a one-woman show which involved different character monologues. Director Mike Nichols discovered Whoopi and helped her the show to Broadway. It was renamed, Whoopi Goldberg. The show ran from October 24, 1984, to March 10, 1985.
