Tony Little Informercial and Parodies
He has frequently been a target and source of parody. In his infomercials, he has often dressed up and parodied other TV personalities, including Fabio, Richard Simmons, and Susan Powter. His persona was depicted as “Peter Small” on one episode of Beavis and Butt-head, “Take a Lap”.
In 1995-1997 Bruce Springsteen’s Ghost of Tom Joad Tour, contained the song “Sell It and They Will Come”, which was a tribute to the insanity of late-night infomercials. Tony remarked that ‘I figure that he got home from a gig and wanted to watch some TV and couldn’t get away from me. The line was: “And Tony Little, America’s personal trainer, please kill yourself.” That cracks me up. I love the parody stuff.’
He appeared as himself, making fun of his own image, on The Weird Al Show in 1997. In 1998, he parodied himself again on the Fox show MADtv. In 1999 he did a cameo appearance in the movie Frezno Smooth. He appeared in a GEICO commercial. At first, he pretends to be another of his personal training videos, but then it becomes a commercial for car insurance.
Early 2002 in an episode of MADtv, he was parodied and was portrayed by WWE wrestler Steve Austin (Stone Cold). Austin himself was to be parodied by MADtv cast member Will Sasso. He then appeared in the 2006 film The Pumpkin Karver. He has also appeared on VH1’s Best Year Ever 2007.
He appeared on an episode of G4TV’s popular video game review show X-Play in October 2006. Then the episode in question was actually named “The Tony Little Episode”. The highlight of the episode featured him in a comedy sketch. It evidently parodied his own infomercials. In the sketch, he magically transports an excessively obese member of G4’s web design team into a fitness infomercial via superpowers. He claims in the sketch that he obtained the stated superpowers when he was 16 years old, after being bitten by a radioactive ponytail. He then shows the person how they can start an exercise regimen by using specialized video-game peripherals.
On October 29, 2006, he appeared in an episode of the VH1 reality show Celebrity Paranormal Project. He has also appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno three times already. On December 7, 2008, he appeared on NFL Countdown. Tony was “training” players on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He appeared on an episode of Real Chance of Love 2 in 2009.
One of his infomercials made it to the movie Jennifer’s Body. It is in a scene when Jennifer is watching TV while circling which boys to kill on her yearbook. Miller Lite beer launched a retrospective ad campaign in April 2014, that included a “recap” of the fitness crazes that (ostensibly) followed the introduction of Miller’s low carb a low-calorie beer. In the ad, a brief clip of a Little infomercial appears.
In 2018, he could be seen concisely in a commercial for a National rental car
