Who Is Tommy Tuberville?

Tommy Tuberville is a retired American college football coach and also politician, currently serving as the junior United States Senator for Alabama since 2021.

Tuberville was the head football coach at Auburn University from 1999 to 2008 before entering politics. From 1995 to 1998, he was the head football coach at Mississippi State University, Texas Tech University from 2010 to 2012, and the University of Cincinnati from 2013 to 2016.

Career

Tuberville began her career at Hermitage High School in Hermitage, Arkansas. He was also an assistant coach at Arkansas State University. He then went through the ranks at the University of Miami, starting as a graduate assistant and ending as defensive coordinator in 1993, where he won the national championship three times during his tenure there (1986-1994). Career at Auburn

After he left Ole Miss in the 1998 season he joined Auburn Alabama as the head coach. He led the Tigers to the top of the Sec standing, assisting them to an SEC championship and the Western Division title in 2004. With the Tigers, they made eight consecutive bowl appearances, including five New Year’s Bay bowl Berths.

In 2004, he received the Associated Press College Football Coach of the Year Award after a 13-0, win against Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl. He joined the University of Cincinnati after resigning from Texas Tech On December 8, 2012. He became the 38th head coach of Cincinnati. Moreover, Tommy agreed to a $2.2 million contract to coach the team. Furthermore, Cincinnati’s athletic director, Whit Babcock, had previously worked with Tuberville at Auburn, and the two had become friends for several years. A December 9 article in the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal noted that Cincinnati is just 30 miles from Tuberville’s wife, Suzanne’s, home in Guilford, Indiana.

Tuberville led the Bearcats to a 9–4 overall record and a 6–2 conference record in his first season with Cincinnati in 2013. His 2014 squad was just 9–4, but this time they shared the American Athletic Conference co-championship thanks to a 7–1 league record.

In August 2018 he relocated from Florida to Alabama with an aim of viewing for the US Senate in the 2020 elections. After that, he announced that he was going to participate in the 2020 Republican primary for the Senate seat held by Democrat Doug Jones. His campaign was described as low profile but he came close to Donald Trump. He was in support of Trump’s proposal to build a wall on the border with Mexico. He was also opposing abortion and favor repealing the Affordable Care Act.

During the Republic primary on March 3rd 202, He received 33.4 % of the total vote cast ahead of his opponent Jeff Session who had only 31.6% of the total votes. However, both of them didn’t get the required 50% of the vote so they went for a runoff election. Before the runoff election, Tommy was endorsed by Donald Trump on March 10.

On July 14th, Tommy won the runoff election with 60% of the total votes. Tommy was then endorsed by the National Right to Life Committee which is the biggest pro-life organization. After all this endorsement he finally won the general election with 60.1% of the total votes. After taking the office he joined other Republican Senators who announced they would object the counting electoral votes. The objection was part of Trump’s effort to try and overturn his defeat in the election.
