 Who is Tiffany Jackson?

Tiffany Jackson-Jones was a famous American professional basketball player and coach. Jackson played college football for the Texas Longhorns, receiving All-American honors. She then played professionally in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) for the New York Liberty, Tulsa Shock, and Los Angeles Sparks. Jackson also played in the Israeli Premier League for Maccabi Ashdod. She then came back to Texas as an assistant coach for the Longhorns.

College career

Tiffany joined the University of Texas at Austin, where she played college basketball for the Texas Longhorns. The United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) named her the Freshman of the Year in 2004. She was then named a first-team college All-American by the USBWA and picked to the third team by the Associated Press (AP) in 2006 as a sophomore. Jackson earned an honorable mention as an All-American from the AP in both her junior and senior years. She then received all-conference honors in the Big 12 in all four seasons, including first-team selections in her last 3 months.

Professional career

Jackson was picked with the 5th overall selection of the 2007 WNBA draft by the New York Liberty of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She then made her WNBA debut in an 83-71 victory against the Chicago Sky on May 20, 2007. During her rookie season, Jackson led the league in games played (34). She completed fourth in total rebound percentage (17.5) and 5th in defensive rebound percentage (23.6) the next year.

The Liberty traded her to the Tulsa Shock in exchange for Plenette Pierson on June 14, 2010. She had her best pro season, averaging 12.4 points and 8.4 rebounds with the Shock, in the 2011 season. Jackson again led the league in games played (34) and completed second in minutes played (1152) and offensive rebounds (100), third in minutes per game (33.9), fourth in total rebounds (286) and rebounds per game (8.4), and 5th in defensive rebounds (186). In September 2016, she was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer while playing for Tulsa. Following undergoing treatment, she resumed her career with the Maccabi Ashdod in the Israeli Premier League, with whom she had been playing since 2013, during the WNBA’s offseason.

In February 2017, she signed with the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA. She then re-signed with the Sparks in February 2018. Despite intending to play one last season with Los Angeles, Jackson retired from the WNBA in April 2018 to return to her alma mater and become an assistant on Longhorns head coach Karen Astin’s staff. She went on to play with Maccabi Ashdod until 2020. Jackson completed her career with the club with many league championships and guided them to their best finish in the EuroCup in 2015 when they made it to the semifinals.

Coaching career

As an assistant coach with Texas, Jackson spent four years. She was then revealed as the new head coach for Wiley College in April 2022.

Death

Tiffany died at the age of 37 on October 3, 2022, from breast cancer.
