 Who is T. J. Holmes?

Loutelious ”T. J.” Holmes, Jr. is a recognized American journalist and national television personality. He initially became popular nationally as an anchor and correspondent for CNN. Holmes spent 5 years at the network anchoring CNN Saturday & Sunday Mornings.

At the end of 2011, he exited CNN following signing a multi-platform talent deal with BET Networks, which consisted of the new show Don’t Sleep. In 2013, BET and Holmes parted ways after the end of the program. He then became a substitute weekend anchor on MSNBC in December 2012. Holmes also appeared on CNN as a fill-in correspondent and anchor during this same period. He then joined ABC News as a correspondent and anchor in September 2014.

T. J. Holmes Career

He began his television career at KSNF Channel 16 in Joplin, Missouri. Holmes drove to Joplin from the University of Arkansas campus to hand-deliver his resume and reel. He was hired on the spot and spent less than a year at KSNF as a producer, assignment reporter, and weekend anchor. In 2000, he moved back to his home state of Arkansas to join CBS affiliate KTHV in Little Rock as a general assignment reporter. Within a year, he was elevated to weekend anchor.

He then moved on to KNTV, the NBC O&O station in the San Francisco Bay Area, to become the anchor of the 5 p.m. evening news in 2003. While at KNTV, Holmes travels to Athens, Greece to cover the 2004 Olympics, the first Summer Games held following the September 11th attacks. Still, at KNTV, he covered many other stories that gained national attention, such as the historic recall election of California Gov. Gray Davis that ended in the election of Gov. He then joined CNN as a news anchor and correspondent in October 2006. Holmes co-anchored CNN Saturday & Sunday Morning alongside Betty Nguyen until March 2010, when Nguyen left for CBS. He then anchored the newscast alone. At CNN, he reported from the scene of many breaking news events such as Joplin, MO, which was devastated by many tornadoes in May 2011. As well as New Orleans during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010 and Blacksburg, VA immediately following the shootings on the campus of Virginia Tech. In 2008, T. J. covered the historic first papal visit to the United States of Pope Benedict XIV, consisting of anchoring live from the mass at Yankee Stadium. He secured some of the first stories from the survivors of the US Airways Flight 1549 that crash-landed in the Hudson River in January 2009. Holmes then reported from the campus of the University of Mississippi during the first presidential debate between Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama.
