Susan Hirasuna Biography

Susan Hirasuna is an American news anchor, reporter. She works as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter for FOX affiliate KTTV. Hirasuna also refers to herself as a foodie.

Hirasuna attended UC Santa Barbara where she earned a B.A. in Communication and Media Studies (UCSB) and the University of Southern California earning B.A. in Journalism (USC).

Susan began her career in broadcasting in 1988. She got her first job at the Sacramento-based NBC affiliate KCRA-TV where she worked until 1992. Finally, she began reporting for WLVI, a CW -affiliated TV network. She stayed there until 1995.

Hirasuna considers herself an acolyte of biohackers like Ben Greenfield, Tim Ferris and Dave Asprey and jokes, she now spends more on supplements than groceries. Her work has been recognized by the Los Angeles Emmy awards, the Golden Mikes and New England Emmy awards.

Susan accepted a position at KTTV, a Fox-owned network based in Los Angeles in December 1995. Hirasuna’s most memorable moments at the anchor desk include the death of Princess Diana, the Northridge wild fires and the 2008 Chatsworth train accident.

Hirasuna initially started of as a weekend anchor. She became a weekend anchor and reporter for FOX 11 News (KTTV) in June 2011.

She traveled to Japan on a fellowship to report on recovery and rebuilding efforts, a year after the great quake and tsunami.
She has also handled extended coverage of the Route 91 shooting in Las Vegas, the death of Princess Diana and too many wildfires and police pursuits to count.

She is a longtime member of the Asian American Journalists Association and served on the LA board for years. She is also an active with the chapter as an advisory board member. She also helped curate chefs and restaurants for an annual event to benefit the Center for the Pacific Asian Family, an organization that helps domestic violence and sexual assault survivors and their children.

CPAF honored her with it’s “Champion of Change” award for her volunteerism in 2017.

Some of Susan’s favorite stories featured, tech founders like Elan Lee, creator of “Exploding Kittens” card game and breaker of Kickstarter and chefs like Roy Choi, Bruce Kalman, Perry Cheung, Jason Fullilove and Tony Esnault.
