Who is Steve Daines?

 

Steve Daines( Steven David Daine) is an American politician, currently serving as junior US senator for Montana since 2015. He has also served as the US Representative for Montana’s at large congressional district from 2013-2015. Steve won Mortanans open Class II U. S senate seat in 2014. After that, he has voted in again in 2020 after defeating Steven Bullock, a Democratic nominee, and Montana governor. Prior to joining politic, he was working for Procter & Gamble and RightNow Technologies.

Career

Before joining politics he had worked with Procter & Gamble for 13-years. He had also worked for 7-year managing operations in the United state before he and his family moved to Hong Kong and China to expand Procter & Gamble Asian business. In 1997, he departed Procter & Gamble in order to join the family construction business in Bozeman.

After that, he moved to RightNow Technologies, where he was in charge of running the customer care division. He later became the vice-president of North America sales and also vice president of the Asia Pacific division. During his time at the company cloud-based software became publicly traded and Bozeman’s largest commercial employer. He remains with the company until March 2012. He left the company to join a campaign for congress full-time.

In 2008, he decided to run for lieutenant governor of Montana against the republican nominee Roy Brown. Both of them were challenging Democratic Governor Brian Schweitzer and his running mate John Bohlinger. Both Steve & Brown lost the election. Moreover, on November 13th, 2010 Steve confirmed that he was going to run for the US senate seat.

However, after US Representative Denny Rehberg declared that he was going to vie for the seat Steve step down from the race. He announces his candidacy for the House seat which was being left by Denny Rehberg. He won the primary election with 71% of the vote cast. During the general election, he won the seat with 53% against Democratic state senator Kim Gillan who got 43%. Where he won 48 of the 56 state’s counties.

2014 Elections

Baucus stepdown from the Senate seat in February 2014 to become the United States ambassador to China. For the remainder of Baucus’ tenure, Democratic Governor Steve Bullock endorsed lieutenant governor John Walsh to take over from the Senate seat. Furthermore, Walsh had already declared his interest to run for Senate in 2014, and it was thought that his appointment could give him the advantage of holding office, improving Democratic chances of filling the seat.

On June 3, 2014, Steve won against Missoula state representative Champ Edmunds and political novice Susan Cundiff in the Republican primary, winning with 83.4% of the vote while Walsh received 64 % of the vote in the Democratic primary. In August 2014, Walsh stepped down from the race after a publication of a New York Times article accusing him of copy-paste in an article written as part of his master’s work at the U.S. Army War College. With just 50 days to go, a special convention called by Montana’s Democratic Party nominated Butte lawmaker Amanda Curtis. Daines won the general election with 57.8% of the vote compared to 40.1% for Curtis.

In 2020, he was reelected again after defeating Bullock with 55% of the votes cast. The campaign was one of the most expensive Senate elections in the 2020 period, with Democrats outspending Republicans by $19 million, $82–63 million.
