Who is Steve Campion?

Steve Campion is an American news reporter and ABC13 Eyewitness News team. He joined the ABC13 Eyewitness News team in April 2014 as a multi-media journalist. He prides himself on covering all aspects of a story from shooting to writing and editing the pieces. Steve left his home state of Florida for a new and bigger challenge here in Houston, one he’s happy to embark on at KTRK-TV.

ABC13  Campion attended high school in Fort Lauderdale. He left the Miami area to attend college at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He had an opportunity to study abroad twice, in Belgium and in Italy. He later graduated Magna Cum Laude from UF with two degrees in Telecommunication-News and Political Science.

Steve Campion joined the ABC13 Eyewitness News team in April 2014 as a multi-media journalist. He prides himself on covering all aspects of a story from shooting to writing and editing the pieces. Steve left his home state of Florida for a new and bigger challenge here in Houston, one he’s happy to embark on at KTRK-TV.

He landed his first on-air job shortly after at WCJB-TV20 News in Gainesville. Steve quickly learned how stories can unfold in unexpected ways. His storytelling took him across North Central Florida. One of the more interesting experiences included covering Pastor Terry Jones, who stirred controversy and international condemnation for burning the Koran.

He then landed a position with Waterman Broadcasting in Southwest Florida. His storytelling with NBC2/ABC7 stretched across the Sunshine State. He covered the area’s largest city Cape Coral, threatening tropical storms, and led coverage on Congressman Trey Radel’s resignation following his cocaine bust. In the fall of 2013, Steve traveled to the D.C. courtroom where the politician admitted to buying the drug on city streets. In March of 2014, Steve was honored as an Associated Press finalist for his stories involving dirty water being dumped into the Gulf of Mexico, compliments of controversial water management practices.
