Stetson Fleming Bennett IV nicknamed ”The Mailman,” is a famous American professional football quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs. Bennett began his career as a walk-on at Georgia prior to transferring to Jones County Junior College. In 2022, he transferred back to Georgia and earned a National Championship.

2017

Stetson was a walk-on at Georgia his freshman season and did not play for the entire season. Following five-star high school quarterback Justin Fileds committing to Georgia in 2018, Bennett opted to transfer to Jones County Junior College.

2018

Following his transfer, he played in 12 games and threw for 16 touchdowns for 1,840 yards. After his lone season at Jones County, Bennett joined the transfer portal for a second time. At the time, he was a three-star prospect heading into his transfer. Bennett was about to enter the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns but ended up going back to Georgia. The Bulldogs were in need of a backup quarterback following Fields’ transfer to Ohio State. They offered Stetson a scholarship, and he accepted and became their second-string quarterback.

2019

As Jake Fromm’s backup, he had 2 touchdowns and 1 interception on the season. Bennett additionally had one rushing touchdown. He notably appeared in the SEC Championship Game after Fromm sustained an injury.

2020

Heading into his junior season, Stetson began the season as a backup quarterback to D’Wan Mathis. Mathis was named the starter following Jamie Newman, the planned starter decided to exit the season. Bennett then became the starter following poor play from Mathis. After a few months, USC transfer JT Daniels took the starting job.

2021

He then came into the season as the backup to JT Daniels. Bennett made his first appearance and first start of the 2021 season over the UAB Blazers following Daniels going down with an oblique injury. He tied the record for most touchdowns in a game by a Georgia quarterback with five in that game. For the rest of the season, he was trusted with the starting job for the rest of the season, and he guided the Bulldogs to a 12-0 record. Bennett completed the season with 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

He then threw for 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in the 24-41 defeat in the SEC Championship Game over the Alabama Crimson Tide, on December 4, 2021. Bennett was then criticized for the defeat, leading many to believe that JT Daniels should get the start over Michigan in the Orange Bowl. Despite the defeat, he guided the Bulldogs to a win in the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship game in a rematch against Alabama. This was Georgia’s first national title since 1980.

2022

In just ten days following the National Championship, he announced his return to Georgia on January 20, 2022. This came following speculation that he would transfer. In the preseason, Adam Rittenberg named him a Heisman Trophy candidate.
