Who is Star Jones?

Star Jones is an American lawyer, journalist, writer, talk show host, women’s advocate, and fashion designer best known as an original co-host of ABC’s The View. She appeared on the show from 1997 to 2006.

Jones initially served as a prosecutor with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York from 1986 to 1991. She was then elevated to the senior assistant district attorney in 1992. She was later recruited in 1991 by Court TV as a commentator for the William Kennedy Smith rape trial.

Jones later spent several years as a legal correspondent for NBC’s Today and NBC Nightly News. Jones was later given her own court show Jones & Jury in 1994. This made her the first black person and female to serve as a television arbitrator of a courtroom series. The show was canceled a year later. She also became a chief legal analyst on Inside Edition. There, she led the coverage of the O.J. Simpson murder case is the only reporter to interview Simpson during his civil trial.

She also returned to Court TV—now rebranded truTV as its executive editor of daytime programming. Jones also hosted Star Jones, an eponymous live weekday talk show based on the law and pop culture. Premiering on August 20, 2007, the show was canceled six months later and they announced that Jones was leaving truTV. The final episode of the show aired on February 1, 2008. Her departure from the network was stated as due to “changes in their programming selection.”
