Who is Snoop Dogg?

Snoop Dogg ( Calvin Cordozar Broadus) is an American rapper, songwriter, music producer, actor, media personality, and businessman. Snoop rose to fame in 1992 when he featured Dr. Dre on his debut single “Deep Cover”. After that, he featured him again on his debut album, The Chronic. Since then he has sold more than 23 million in the US and 35 million Globally.

Career

In November 1993, his debut solo album, Doggystyle was released by Death Row Records. The album peaked at number one on the popular album chart, Billboard 200, and on Billboard’s Top R&B/ Hip Hop Album Chart. The album sold over 800, 000 copies in its first week, in 1994 he was certified as quadruple-platinum.

That same year the Death Row Record released another soundtrack by Snoop Dogg for a short film titled Murder Was the Case, where Snoop Dogg was the starring. He dropped his second album in 1996, titled Tha Doggfather, the album also peaked at number one on both charts. The following year the album was also certified as double platinum

EMI Records and Geffen Records

SnoopDogg signed with Priority/ Capitol/EMI Records in 2002, where he released his single Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss. Two years later he signed with Geffen Records and released another three albums including R&G (Rhythm and Gangster), Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, and Ego Trippin. In 2009 Priority released his album Malice n Wonderland followed by a documentary in 2011.

In 2013, he released a Reggae album titled Reincarnated followed by a documentary film of the same name. His release of the album came after he visited Jamaica and confirmed conversion to Rastafari and a new name as Snoop Lion in 2012. The Album outlined his Jamaican experience.

He was born in Long Beach California to Beverly Broadus and Vernall Varnado. Doggystyle and Tha DoggFather

After the release of his debut album, Doggy style it became commercial and a success topping different album Charts. His single “Who Am I” together with Gin and Juice became the top ten most-played songs in the US.

The Album was released by the Death Row Record in 1993. Doggystyle featured other rappers who were signed under Death Row Records. In 1994, they released a short film about the Snoop Dogg murder trial titled Murder is the Case, followed by a soundtrack. Snoop Dogg founded a Record Label in 1995 titled Doggy Style Record Inc. Furthermore, the Record Label was registered by the California Secretary of State as business entity number C1923139.

In 1996, Snoop Dogg was acquitted of his murder charges. After he was acquitted he stated that he did not want to live a gangster lifestyle. In 2000 he released his third album with No Limit Records, Tha Last Meal, the album sold over 2.1 million copies.
