Sean Hayes (Sean Patrick Hayes) is an American actor, comedian, and producer best known for playing Jack McFarland on the NBC sitcom Will & Grace. Hayes runs a television production company called Hazy Mills Productions. The company produces shows such as Grimm, Hot in Cleveland, The Soul Man, and Hollywood Game Night.

Hayes was born to Mary Hayes and Ronald Hayes, the youngest of five children. His mother Mary was the director of a non-profit food bank called the Northern Illinois Food Bank and his father was a lithographer. Hayes was raised as a Roman Catholic in the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and is of Irish descent. His father who was an alcoholic left them when Sean was only five years old and has not spoken to him in many years. Hayes and his siblings were then raised by their mother. His mother died in 2018.

He then left “two or three classes short” of graduation when he became a music director at the Pheasant Run Theater in St. Charles, Illinois. He also worked as a classical pianist and practiced improv t The Second City in Chicago. Hayes composed original music for a production of Antigone at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles where he got work as a stand-up comedian and an actor on stage and on television. His work included a commercial for Doritos which then aired during Super Bowl XXXII in 1998.
