Satnam Singh Bhamara is a professional Indian well-known wrestler and a former basketball player currently signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Thus he became the first Indian and Sikh player to be drafted into the NBA (National Basketball Player) when he was selected with the 52nd overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks. A High School Basketball Career

It was announced in early 2010 that the global sports marketing business IMG was partnering with Reliance Industries, the largest corporation in India, to form a new company known as IMG Reliance (IMGR). Singh then led the Punjab state youth team to a national championship in June 201o where he led the BFI to choose him to play at an NBA Basketball Without Borders camp in Singapore. Harish Sharma (the BFI’s head coach) had him play against members of the Indian national team and he managed to compete with them.

Sharma then recommended Singh for IMGR to consider him for a scholarship but at 14 years of age, he was too old. Nevertheless, he was later awarded a scholarship under the IMGR basketball training academy and shifted to Brandenton, Florida in September 2010. During the 2014-5 season, he averaged 9.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks in less than 20 minutes per game for IMG, the No. 2 ranked team in the country. But due to his poor English and lack of American citizenship, he was ineligible for the National Collegiate AthleticAssociation (NCAA).

A Professional Basketball Career

Singh was announced in April 2015 as an early for the 2015 NBA draft. On June 25, 2015, at the draft, he was selected with the 52nd overall pick, by the Dallas Mavericks, becoming the first Indian-born player to be drafted into the NBA. Moreover, he became the first player since the 2005 draft to enter without playing in college, overseas professionally, or in the NBA Development League. His draft rights on July 8, 2019, were traded alongside two second-round picks to the Memphis Grizzlies in a sign and trade for Delon Wright.

A Career with the Texas Legends (2015-2017)

Singh joined the Mavericks in July 2015, for the 2015 NBA Summer League. He was then acquired by the Texas Legends on October 31, 2015, the D-League affiliate of the Mavericks. Therefore he made his professional debut on November 13, 2015, in a 104-82 loss to the Austin Spurs, recording four points, three rebounds, and one assist in nine minutes. Singh went on to have a season-best game on February 5, 2016, with six points and six rebounds in 22 minutes of action as a starter in a 136-80 loss to the Raptors 905.

During the 2015-16 season, he appeared in 19 games (2 starts) for the Legends where he averaged 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8 minutes per game. He was then re-acquired by the Legends on October 30, 2016. After playing for the Legends in the 2016-17 season, he joined the Dallas Mavericks for the 2017 NBA Summer League. Singh featured in a one-hour documentary on Netflix titled “One in a Billion” in January 2017. He then signed a contract with the UBA Pro Basketball League on November 3, 2017, in India. Then he took part in the UBA US Pro Performance Camp in January 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona.

A Career with St. John’s Edge (2018-2019)

A National Team Career

Besides playing at the club level, when he was 13 years old in the summer of 2009, he played for the Indian national under-16 basketball team at the 2009 FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship hosted by Johor Bahru, Malaysia. In the game, he averaged 1. 5 points as his team finished in 10th place. He then debuted for the senior Indian national team at the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship in Wuan, China. In the game, he averaged 4.2 points and 2.7 rebounds for India. He then returned to his national team for the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup in Beirut, Lebanon.
