Rudy Giuliani is an American attorney and politician who was the 107th Mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001. From 1981 to 1983, he served as U.S Associate Attorney General while from 1983 to 1989 he served as U.S Attorney for the Southern District of Newyork.

Giuliani was the leader of the federal prosecution of New York mafia bosses in the 1980s during his time as Attorney for Newyok’s Southern District. He ran for mayor of New York in 1989 but failed. However, in 1933, he succeeded and was also reelected in 1997. Guliani also led a controversial civic cleanup in New York using his position as mayor from 1994 to 2001. In his fight against crime in the city, he appointed a new police commissioner, William Bratton, who was an outsider and would reform the entire police department.

Giuliani wanted to promote a family vibe, therefore, focussing on removing sex clubs and panhandlers from Times Square. Instead, he focussed on returning the earlier atmosphere of business, art and theatre. The crime rate dropped steeply through Giuliani’s efforts. In 2000, Guliani ran for U.S Senate position from New York but he dropped off the race after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. He earned the name, America’s mayor after the September 11 attacks fro his mayoral leadership. Time Magazine also named him Person of the Year in 2001. Then in 2002, Queen Elizabeth II of the U.K bestowed Giuliani an honorary knighthood.
