In 1998 he sued Strawberry due to unpaid legal fees, however, the matter was dealt with out of court.

In the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, who killed their parents in 1989, Shapiro planned Erik’s surrender in 1990, when he was in Israel for a tennis tournament at the time of Lyle’s arrest.
He also represented Erik at their first initial hearing, before the defense was turned over to Leslie Abramson, who represented Erik until the brothers’ 1996 arrest.

Having associated himself with Simpson on June 17th, 1994, he appeared at Robert Kardashian’s press conference asking OJ to turn himself into the police. Simpson’s psychiatrist’s doctors agreed, according to Shapiro, that his message to “parents,” which Kardashian read over the radio, was a suicide note. Shapiro pleaded with Simpson to surrender on television. Simpson surrendered to the cops later that day, with Shapiro’s help, after the famed low-speed “Bronco chase.”

Shapiro was the lead defense team of OJ when the actual trial began, the team of OJ’s defense at the time was nicknamed ” Dream Team”. However, Robert later gave Johnnie Cochran the lead chair. Even after winning the OJ case, he went ahead and criticized his team member F.Lee Bailey referring to him as a ” loose cannon” and Cochran for bringing race into the trial.
