Rachel Roy (full name: Rachel Irene Roy) is an American fashion designer known for her label, The RACHEL Rachel Roy collection, an affordable diffusion line of sportswear, shoes, and accessories. Roy began her fashion design journey as a wardrobe stylist and interned at the fashion label Rocawear. She then rose to the position of creative director of the women’s and children’s divisions. It is there that she met her future husband, Damon Dash.
Roy attended Seaside High School. She later joined Columbia Union College (now called Washington Adventist University) in Takoma Park, Maryland. Roy also left to move to New York City.
Roy founded Kindness Is Always Fashionable in 2010. This is when she designed a tote bag that was signed by 88 of her celebrity friends. The sales proceeds were donated to Unicef for their relief work in Pakistan where millions of people had been affected by severe flooding.
Roy received a Bollywood industry award for her contribution to American fashion in early 2006. She was then inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2007. The Jones Apparel Group formed a joint venture with the Rachel Roy brand in June 2008.
She also received publicity in the teen market which includes Teen Vogue; in its April 2009 issue. She did a “how-to,” where she transforms a regular T-shirt into an edgy prom dress.

In summer 2009, Roy and Grammy Award-winning British pop singer Estelle announced via Roy’s Twitter feed their collaboration. They did a jewelry line for the Spring 2010 RACHEL Rachel Roy collection. She also designed a capsule collection in partnership with model Jessica Stam for Macy’s stores and RachelRoy.com in Fall 2010.
