Otto Porter Jr. is a professional American eminent basketball player of the Golden State Warriors of the NBA (National Basketball League). While at college, he played college basketball for the George town Hoyas and was selected by the Washington Wizards with the third overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft. Before entering the NBA, he was considered one of the top college basketball players.


While in high school, he earned all-state honors as a junior and senior as well as led the Braves to three straight Class 1 state championships and gave Scott Central its state-record 15th title overall. A College Career

On November 12, 2011, he signed a letter of intent with the George town Hoyas and played the first game with them on that date against the Savannah State Tigers. In his first collegiate game, he recorded 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. In his freshman year, he averaged 9.7 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game. He went to perform excellently, as he nearly doubled his points production as a sophomore averaging 16.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

He led his team to a 25-7 record and a number 2 seed in the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship at the conclusion of the 2012-13 season. Because of his efforts, he was named the Big East Player of the Year and was a finalist for both the Naismith Trophy and Wooden Award. He announced on April 15, 2013, his decision to forgo his final two years of eligibility and enter the NBA draft.

A Professional Career

A Career with the Washington Wizards (2013-2019)

Porter was selected by the Washington Wizards with the third overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft. However, due to a hip injury, he missed training camp and the first 18 games of the 2013-14 season. He made his NBA debut going scoreless in 14 minutes in a game against the Milwaukee Bucks on December 6. In April 2014, he scored a season-high nine points. He again scored his career-high 21 points on November 1, 2014, in the second half of the Wizards’ 108-97 win over the Bucks.

Porter set a new career-high on November 7, 2015, with 23 points in a 114-99 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. He went on to score another career-high 28 points on December 12, 2015, in a 114-111 win over the Dallas Mavericks. In a game against the Boston Celtics on November 9, 2016, he scored a career-high 34 points in a 118-93 win. He set a new career-high on January 18, 2017, with six three-pointers to finish with 25 points in a 104-101 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. On January 19, he made six three-pointers for the second straight night finishing with 23 points in a 113-110 win over the New York Knicks.

In 2016-17, he started 8 games and set career highs in scoring (13.4 points per game), rebounds (6.4), and steals (1.5) while shooting 51.6 percent from the field and 43.4 percent from three-point range. His three-point shooting range was fourth-best in the NBA. The Brooklyn Nets on July 4, 2017, offered him a four-year $106.5 million contract, the maximum they could give him. Then the Wizards announced on July 13 that they had retained its right of first refusal and matched the offer sheet extended to Porter by the Nets.

He matched his career-high with seven 3-pointers on December 29 and had a game-high 26 points in a 121-103 win over the Houston Rockets. Also against the Warriors, he matched his season-high with 29 points in February 2018. In a 124-114 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on November 24, 2018, he scored a season-high 29 points. Porter returned to the lineup on January 2 against the Atlanta Hawks after missing 10 games with a bruised right knee. Upon returning on January 30, he came off the bench against the Indiana Pacers and injured his left big toe.

A Career with the Chicago Bulls (2019-2021)

Porter was traded to the Chicago Bulls on February 6, 2019, in exchange for Jabari Parker, Bobby Portis, and a protected 2023 second-round draft pick. In a game against the Memphis Grizzlies on February 13, he scored a career-high 37 points on 16-for-20 shooting in the 122-110 win.

A Career with the Orlando Magic 2021

He and Wendell Carter Jr. were traded to the Orlando Magic on March 25, 2021, in exchange for Nikila Vucevic and Al-Farouq Aminu. He also received two future first-round draft picks.
