A College Career
On November 12, 2011, he signed a letter of intent with the George town Hoyas and played the first game with them on that date against the Savannah State Tigers. In his first collegiate game, he recorded 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. In his freshman year, he averaged 9.7 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game. He went to perform excellently, as he nearly doubled his points production as a sophomore averaging 16.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

Porter was selected by the Washington Wizards with the third overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft. However, due to a hip injury, he missed training camp and the first 18 games of the 2013-14 season. He made his NBA debut going scoreless in 14 minutes in a game against the Milwaukee Bucks on December 6. In April 2014, he scored a season-high nine points.
