In September 1998, Perez joined the Braves going 0-1. In the 1998 postseason, he won a game for the Braves, becoming the first pitcher in MLB history to earn a playoff victory without having won a regular-season game. Perez got his first regular-season win pitching 5.2 innings and allowing two earned runs with seven strikeouts on May 2, 1999. The team rolled to a 5-3 win against the Cincinnati Reds. He was later exchanged alongside Brian Jordan and Andrew Brown (minors) to the Dodgers for Gary Sheffield on January 15, 2002.
