Who is Nick Cordero?

Nick Cordero was a Canadian actor best known as Earl in Broadway’s Waitress and A Bronx Tale: The Musical actor. In 2014, he appeared on Broadway in the musical Bullets Over Broadway in the role of Cheech. From his role in the film, Cordero was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical.

Nick also won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical and a Theater World Award for the role. Cordero originated the title role in the Off-Broadway production of The Toxic Avenger. Also, he played the role of Dennis in Rock of Ages on Broadway in 2012 and on tour.

Cordero portrayed the role of Victor Lugo in “Heavy is the Head” the 10th episode of the 8th season of the CBS police procedural drama Blue Bloods in 2017. He also reprised the role in 2018 in “Your Six” the 20th episode of the 8th season of the show.

Cordero was admitted to hospital on March 31 and his condition worsened. He was subsequently diagnosed with COVID-19. On April 11, he needed to be resuscitated in the middle of the night, and doctors needed to put Cordero on an ECMO machine. Unfortunately, after he seemed to be making progress, he needed his right leg amputated. The surgery went well but Cordero went into a coma.

Cordero’s wife frequently shared an update on his health. She had also launched a daily singalong with the hashtag #wakeupnick to show support for Mr. Cordero during the six weeks he was in a medically induced coma. Cordero had major lung damage and had not regained consciousness after being taken off sedation as of May 1, 2020. He later regained consciousness by May 13, 2020.
