Mayock played football for his high school, The Haverford School in Haverford, Pennsylvania, and college football at Boston College, where he also played baseball. He was picked as a safety by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the tenth round of the 1981 NFL Draft, as the 25th overall pick. On August 18, 1981, Mike was waived during the first roster cuts. Following his release, he signed with the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts in the 1981 season.
