A High School Career

Originally, he played high school basketball with his older brother Jeffrey Jordan at Loyola Academy. In his sophomore year, the pair led the school to the conference championships and the best season in school history. However, Marcus was transferred to Whitney Young Magnet High School for his junior and senior seasons. Thus he led the Whitney Young Dolphins to the Illinois 4A Championship in 2009. As he scored a game-high 19 points in a 69-66 victory over Waukegan. Moreover, he was named the state tournament’s most valuable player. Upon his graduation, ESPN rated him as the 60th-best high school senior shooting guard in the country, averaging 10.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.2 steals per game.

A College Career

After his high school career, he went on to play college basketball at the University of Central Florida. In his freshman year, UCF was in the final year of a five-year contract with Adidas, but Marcus insisted on wearing Nike Air Jordan shoes out of loyalty to his father. Eventually, this prompted Adidas to terminate its sponsorship with UCF. In his true freshman year in 2009-10, he scored 8.0 points per game and scored 1152 points in his college career.

In the opening game of the 2010-11 season on November 12, 2010, he led UCF to victory against the University of West Florida. Where he scored a career-high 28 points on 8-11 field-goal shooting and 5-7 from the 3-point line. Furthermore, he had a team-high 18 points in upsetting number-16 ranked Florida on December 1, 2010. However, Marcus left the UCF basketball team in August 2012, following in his brother’s (Jeffrey) footsteps who departed the team in January of the same year. But continued to take classes at the school.
