Luke Fickell (Luke Joseph Fickell) is a famous American football coach currently serving the University of Cincinnati as the head football coach. Fickell began his career in 1993 first as a player and in 1999, he served as a graduate assistant and assistant coach at Ohio State University.
Fickell served in the 2011season as an interim head coach at OSU. He had replaced Jim Tressel. Fickell began his head coach career in the 2016 season at the University of Cincinnati. Fickell began his coaching career in 1999 as a graduate assistant at Ohio. In the 2000 season, Fickell landed a job as a defensive line coach at the University of Akron. Fickell returned to Ohio in the 2002 season as a special teams coordinator under Jim Tressel as the head coach. He was promoted to be the linebackers coach position in the 2004 season.
From the 2005 season, Fickell served as a co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach until the end of the 2010 season. The AFCA named Fickell Assistant Coach of the Year in 2010. Due to his prosperity, he was named the AAC Coach of the Year for the 2018 season.
Additionally, in the 2019 season, Fickell recorded 11 wins. Under his leadership, the Bearcats won the East Division championship in the AAC for the first time. Fickell recorded a 38-6 victory over Boston College and won the Birmingham Bowl.
Fickell received offers from schools such as Michigan State, Florida State, West Virginia, Louisville, and Maryland before the beginning of the 2020 season.
