Terrell began his career as a teacher at Gage Middle School in Huntington Park, CA. teaching history, geography, and economics.

Terrell called on the Los Angeles police commission in 1999 to hear claims by a witness claiming that Margaret Laverne Mitchell, a homeless lady was shot while running by police officers. He called for an investigation of misconduct in 2012 by trainees of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
A Radio Career
He co-hosted the weekday talk show Terrell & Katz which debuted on June 3, 1996, on KMPC radio in Los Angeles with former Los Angeles Superior Court judge Burton Katz. The talk show was a point-counterpoint with Terrell as the liberal voice and Katz as the conservative. Starting October 5, 1996, Terrel & Katz was moved to weekends on KABC. Terrel thus continued to host a weekend legal show on KABC until August 15, 2010 and continues to be a recurring guest host for KABC’s The Peter Tilden Show. He has returned to KABC as of July 2021 with a new daily afternoon drive show called Leo 2.0 live @5.
