Lenny Curry is an American business and politician serving as the mayor of Jacksonville Florida. He took office as the new mayor on July 1st, 2015, after he defeated incumbent Alvin Brown. He is a member of the Republican Party and he is also a former chairman of the Republican Party in Florida. In addition, he is the co-founder of the professional services firm ICX Group. After serving for one term, he was then reelected as mayor for a second term. Currently, Jacksonville is the largest city in the United States with a Republican mayor.
Career
In 1994, he was hired as a public accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, a position he held until 2002. After that, he co-founded a Jacksonville-based professional services firm, ICX Group Inc in 2002. The firm was providing finance accounting consulting, executive recruiting, and staffing services.
Moreover, on June 3rd, 2014, he declared his interest to run for the mayoral position for Jacksonville in the 2015, election. Lenny said his reason for running for the position was because, in late 2012 and early 2013, he began receiving leadership troubles under sitting Democratic mayor Alvin Brown.
As a result, of good work in the first term, Curry was re-elected to a second term as mayor of Jacksonville on March 19, 2019. Moreover, during the 2019 election, Anna Brosche, his main rival, received 24% of the vote, while Curry received 58% of the votes.
