He created his first manga entitled Miuranger at the age of 10 in 1976 which was published for his classmates in a school publication, and the series ended up spanning 40 volumes. He went on and created his second manga entitled Ken e no Michi (“The Way to the Sword”) in 1977 in which he used Indian ink for the first time. In 1979, while in middle school, his drawing techniques improved greatly as he started using professional drawing techniques. While in high school, he befriended fellow manga artist Koji Mori where they both co-authored a science fiction doujinshi which was sent to Weekly Shonen Sunday.

In 1985, he applied for entrance to the art college of Nihon University. There, he submitted a short project Futatabi for examination and was therefore granted admission. Later, the project earned him the 34th Newcomer Manga Award from Weekly Shonen Magazine. That same year, his next work, NOA was published in Fresh Magazine but was not successful. While working for Buronson in 1988 on a project titled King of Wolves, he published a prototype of Berserk in Hakusensha’s Monthly ComiComi, the 48-page prototype placed second in ComiComi 7th Manga School competition.

The full serialization of Berserk would end up becoming his most famous and successful work. A sequel of King of Wolves, entitled Oro Den (“Legend of the King of Wolves”) was published in 1990 in the same magazine. Monthly Animal House was renamed Young Animal in 1992 where Berserk continued serialization. That same year, he collaborated with Buronson on the manga Japan which also was published in Young Animal. In addition, Miura supervised the production of a 25-episode anime adaptation of Berserk produced by OLM, Inc. in 1997 which aired on NTV in the same year. And also supervised the 1999 Dreamcast video game Sword of the Berserk: Guts’ Rage. At the 6th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prizes, he received the Award for Excellence for Berserk.
