Kelly Cherelle Price is a professional American R&B and gospel singer and songwriter and actress. She started off as a backing and guest vocalist for Mariah Carey. Earlier Mariah overheard her singing in the rehearsal hall while everyone was on a meal break during rehearsals for the 1992 Grammy Awards. Mariah introduced her to her husband, Sony Columbia’s then CEO Tommy Mottola who offered her a job as a background singer for Carey, working until 1997.
Price made a name for herself as a backing and guest vocalist, after she appeared on various hit singles. In 2000 Price released her second album, Mirror Mirror, on the Def Soul imprint of Def Jam Records. Island and Def Jam became one in 1999, with Price and labelmates Dru Hill being reassigned to Def Soul.
