Kelly Cherelle Price is a professional American R&B and gospel singer and songwriter and actress. She started off as a backing and guest vocalist for Mariah Carey. Earlier Mariah overheard her singing in the rehearsal hall while everyone was on a meal break during rehearsals for the 1992 Grammy Awards. Mariah introduced her to her husband, Sony Columbia’s then CEO Tommy Mottola who offered her a job as a background singer for Carey, working until 1997.

Price made a name for herself as a backing and guest vocalist, after she appeared on various hit singles. The hits include Mariah Carey’s ”Fantasy”, The Notorious B.I.G.‘s ”Mo Money Mo Problems”, Whitney Houston’s ”Heartbreak Hotel”, and Mase’s ”Feel So Good,”. Kelly also has sung background vocals for Aretha Franklin, SWV, Faith Evans, Brian McKnight, and R. Kelly.

2000- 2005

In 2000 Price released her second album, Mirror Mirror, on the Def Soul imprint of Def Jam Records. Island and Def Jam became one in 1999, with Price and labelmates Dru Hill being reassigned to Def Soul. Mirror Mirror featured the tracks ”You Should’ve Told Me” and the Grammy Award-nominated ”As We Lay”, a cover of Shirley Murdock’s 1986 song. In 2000, a remix of ”Love Sets You Free” was issued a single, produced by Teddy Riley and starring a number of fellow R&B performers. She performed a cover of the 1983 Rufus & Chaka Khan hit ”Ain’t Nobody” after she was featured in the 2003 film, Bringing Down the House.
