Who is Kathryn Crosby?

Kathryn Crosby is a retired American actress and singer who was active between 1953 and 2010. She is greatly known by her stage names Kathryn Grant and Kathryn Grandstaff.

Kathryn Crosby Career

She got familiar with the stage first appearing at the age of 3. Crosby found her way into films through the beauty pageant circuit. She later appeared as a guest star on Bing Crosby’s ABC sitcom The Bing Crosby Show which was cast from 1964 to 1965.

Kathryn greatly retired after she got married to Bing. However, she had a featured role in the courtroom drama Anatomy of a Murder in 1959. Kathryn played the part of “Mama Bear” alongside her husband and children in Goldilocks. She also co-starred with Jack Lemmon in the comedy Operation Mad Ball of 1957. She then starred with Tony Curtis in the drama Mister Cory of 1957 and also as a trapeze artist in The Big Circus of 1959.

Kathryn hosted The Kathryn Crosby Show, a 30-minute local talk show on KPIX-TV in San Francisco in the mid-1970s. Her then-husband Bing appeared occasionally appeared as a guest.

After Bing Crosby’s death in 1977, she took on a few smaller roles. Crosby took the lead in the short-lived 1996 Broadway musical State Fair. After her retirement from acting, Crosby is active with ballet and also stays active with her grandchildren and charitable endeavors like the Crosby Scholars program. For 16 years ending in 2001, she hosted the Crosby National Golf Tournament at Bermuda Run Country Club in Bemuda Run, North Carolina.

Kathryn has been married twice. She first got married to the now-late singer, comedian, and actor Bing Crosby in 1957 as his second wife, two years after her graduation from the university Bing being 30 years her senior. They went ahead having three children together.

Bing died of a massive heart attack on October 14, 1977 (aged 74) in Alcobendas, Madrid, Spain. He had flown alone to Spain to play golf and hunt partridge. On October 14, at the La Moraleja Golf Course near Madrid, Crosby played 18 holes of golf. His partner in the game was World Cup champion Manuel Piñero. Their opponents were club president César de Zulueta and Valentín Barrios.

He lost to his partner by one stroke having had a 13 handicap. Crosby collapsed about 20 yards from the clubhouse entrance and died instantly at about 6:30 pm. His last words were reported, “That was a great game of golf, fellas” and then “Let’s get a Coke.” Crosby was buried on October 18 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California after a private funeral Mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Westwood.

Kathryn later got married to Maurice William Sullivan in 2000. Maurice died on November 4, 2010, after a fatal road accident that involved both Kathryn and Maurice. The accident left Kathryn seriously injured.
