Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (born: Kathleen Hartington Kennedy) is an American attorney who served as the 6th Lieutenant Governor of Maryland from 1995 to 2003. Townsend is a member of the prominent political Kennedy family. Kennedy also unsuccessfully ran for Governor of Maryland in 2002.

She has also served on boards of numerous organizations and also as a consultant to several corporations. She serves as the chair of the Institute for Human Virology at the University of Maryland. Townsend also serves on the boards of directors of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, the Points of Light Foundation,[21] the Center for American Progress and Catholic Democrats.
