Who is Kaitlin Hopkins?

Kaitlin Hopkins (born: Kaitlin Persson) is an American actress known for Bat Boy: The Musical. She is the daughter of actress Shirley Knight and stage producer/director Gene Persson.

She was named the new Head of Musical Theatre at Texas State University under the Department Chair, Dr. John Fleming in 2009.

Kaitlin got her first television credit with an appearance on the soap opera One Life to Live, followed by a regular role on Another World. She then moved to Los Angeles in 1993 where she joined The Matrix Theatre Company. Hopkins also spent weekends singing at The Pink in Santa Monica, and later performed at The Cinegrill, The Giardina, and At My Place. In 1994, she was cast in the rock opera I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky by Peter Sellars.

She then spent the next year traveling the world with the production, performing in Paris, Hamburg, Helsinki, and Montreal, as well as at the Edinburgh Festival, among other locales. She made her Broadway debut in Noises Off aged 38 in 2002. Hopkins has also appeared in the Lincoln Center benefit performance of Anything Goes with Patti LuPone and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

She has also performed in numerous live radio plays for LA Theater Works which include Proof with Anne Heche and The Heidi Chronicles with Martha Plimpton.

Kaitlin’s mother died of natural causes on Wednesday 22nd April 2020 at Kaitlin’s home in San Marcos, Texas. Knight died at the age of 83.

Knight is remembered for taking bold chances during her career — as when she portrayed a promiscuous woman who confronts a young black male (Al Freeman Jr.) on the New York subway in the incendiary 1966 independent film Dutchman (1966) or when she played a pregnant Long Island housewife who gets involved with an ex-football player (James Caan) in The Rain People (1969), a film Francis Ford Coppola wrote just for her.

Hopkins and her family moved back to New York in 1976, at this time she was aged 12. She attended the Williston Northampton School from where he graduated in 1982 at the age of 18. At the school, she was a member of the Williston Widigers.
