He began playing football at the eight of eight. In 2012, he changed his name in football listings from John to JuJu. In his youth, he was coached by Snoop Dogg. While attending Long Beach Polytechnic High School, he played wide receiver and safety for the school’s Jackrabbits football team. The Steelers promoted quarterback coach Randy Fichtner to offensive coordinator on January 18, 2018. This was after they opted not to renew former offensive coordinator Todd Haley’s contract. JuJu entered the training camp as the starting wide receiver after the Steelers traded Martavis Bryant to the Oakland Raiders for a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
