Jovita Moore was a popular American news anchor who served in WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia from 1998 till her demise on October 28, 2021.

Jovita Moore Career

After college, Moore interned at The New York Times prior to joining University. Moore started her newscasting profession in Fort Smith, Arkansas for CBS affiliate KFSM-TV in 1990. She relocated to Memphis, Tennessee to serve at NBC affiliate WMC-TV. However, she only started to gain popularity after she moved to Atlanta, Georgia to ABC affiliate WSB-TV in 1998. She won an Emmy for her news piece on cystic fibroids, including her own battle with the disease and surgery. Jovita would receive numerous more Emmys.

Moore was selected to take the place of Monica Kaufman Pearson in July 2012. Monica was retiring as anchor of the 5:00, 6:00, and 11;00 evening newscasts, together with Justin Farmer. Moore was given the Silver Circle by the Southern Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in 2017. Apart from newscasting, she assisted various civic associations and non-profit organizations throughout metro Atlanta and sat on many boards of directors. Her sittings included the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Black Journalists.

Illness and death.

Doctors diagnosed Jovita with two tumors of her brain in April 2021. Successful surgery was done on her to remove the tumors, however, she was later diagnosed with a very aggressive form of brain cancer, known as glioblastoma. During her break, Linda Stouffer, Lori Wilson, and Sophia Choi, among others replaced her on the newscast till she would fully recover. Jovita died from the illness on October 28, 2021, aged 54 years.
