He then had surgery on his broken hand and had a 10-month layoff from competing. Emmett loaded with punches, pressing Ricetti to fall forward when Emmett hit him with a knee and he was KO in the fifth round. The bout was ruled a No Decision at first as Ricetti was grounded when he got kneed. After a review, the decision was changed and a win was given to Emmett by unanimous technical decision. Josh was then crowned WFC Lightweight Champion.

2015

After Emmett secured the championship belt, he did not return to compete until almost after one year on October 3, 2015. He faced Rocky Johnson at the KOTC promotion and he showed off his submission skills and won the bout by arm-triangle choke.

2016

He came back to fight in the WFC promotion in Sacramento, CA, USA on January 23, 2016, against a former UFC fighter, Christos Giagos. Josh won the bout by TKO at 2:21 of round 3 and also won the ISCF-International Sport Combat Federation (ISCF) Pro California Lightweight Title.
