Amateur career
Joel was a two-time Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 3A state golf champion at Clarkston High School. At the University of Washington in Seattle, he played only one year of college golf.
Professional career
From 2010 to 2013, Dahmen played on PGA Tour Canada without much success. However, in 2014 he won twice and earned the Order of Merit to gain his Web.com Tour card for 2015. Joel also played three events on PGA Tour Latinoamerica in late 2014 completing tied for second in two of them. In 2015, on the Web.com Tour, he made the cut in 12 of 25 events, including three top-10 finishes. Dahmen proceeded to the Web.com Tour Finals but did not receive a PGA Tour card.
In 2016, he went back to the Web.com Tour and made 13 cuts in 20 events in the regular season inclusive of two tied for third finishes.
