Jen Psaki is an American television political analyst who currently works for MSNBC. Previously, she was a political advisor who served under both the Obama and Biden administrations. Before working for MSNBC, she served the Biden administration as the 34th White House Press Secretary in 2021 and 2022. She also served as the U.S. Department of State’s spokesperson in addition to previously holding various roles in the Obama Administration in senior press and communications. Psaki also worked on CNN as a contributor, from 2017 to 2020.

Psaki started her career working in the 2001 reelection campaigns of Iowa Democrats Tom Vilsack who was running for governor and Tom Harkin for the United States Senate. She later served John Kerry during his 2004 presidential campaign as deputy press secretary. Psaki also served as communications director to Joseph Crowley who was a U.S Representative as well as regional press secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee from 2005 to 2006.
Psaki served as traveling press secretary during the presidential campaign of Barack Obama who was at the time a U.S. Senator. After Obama’s victory, she became Deputy Press Secretary, and later on December 19, 2009, she received a promotion to Deputy Communications Director. Psaki later left her position on December 22, 2011, where she took another position as senior vice president as well as managing director at the office of public relations firm Global Strategy Group in Washington, D.C.
Psaki later went back to political communications in 2012 as President Obama’s press secretary for his reelection campaign. She then became a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State on February 11, 2013. Her appointment at the Department of State led to assumptions and speculations that she would take over Jay Carney’s position as White House Press Secretary. However, on May 30, 2014, Josh Earnest would replace Carney. In 2015, Psaki went back to the White House as communications director and retained her position throughout Obama’s Administration.
Biden Administration
Psaki later started working for CNN on February 7, 2017, as a political commentator. She then left CNN in November 2020 where she joined the Biden-Harris transition team. Psaki later became the White House, press secretary. She made her first press briefing after the inauguration ceremony on January 20. She announced on November 20, that she had tested positive for COVID-19. After quarantining, she returned to work on November 12, after fully recovering. For the second time, she contracted COVID-19 on March 22, 2022, and thus did not accompany President Biden on his trip to Europe. On May 5, the White House announced she would be leaving the role on May 13. Thus they named Karine Jean-Pierre as her replacement.

MSNBC announced that Jen will serve as a political analyst throughout the 2022 United States elections and during the 2024 presidential campaign. Moreover, she will host a show on MSNBC’s Peacock streaming service in 2023. She made her first television appearance after leaving her position as White House Press Secretary on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon discussing the Robb Elementary School shooting.
