James Pitaro is an American media executive and attorney from Westchester County, N.Y. On October 12, 2020, his position changed to Chairman, ESPN, and Sports Content. In February 2023, he was named Chairman, of ESPN responsible for full operation control and financial responsibility for ESPN one of the three core business segments of The Walt Disney Company. Previously, he worked for Yahoo’s Media division, Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, and Disney Interactive.

He worked as an associate at the law firm of Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman, and Dicker in New York when he and Jean got married. He is also a New York Yankees fan and he played football for Cornell University. On March 5, 2018, he was named ESPN President and co-chair of Disney Media Networks. This was after serving eight years as a top Disney executive.
Pitaro was elected the eighth president of ESPN and he is also co-chair of Disney Media Network, with over fifty business entities internationally. Pitaro joined Launch Media which was acquired by Yahoo after five years of practicing law in New York. He worked there, setting the strategy and executing growth drivers for Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Music, and becoming Head of Media. Originally, he joined The Walt Disney Company in 2010 as co-President, of Disney Interactive. In his capacity there, he successfully led the turnaround of the digital media and gaming division.
James was named a top achiever in sports and leadership for Sports Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40.” He has since served as chairman of Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media and has a long history of bringing digital initiatives to sports through ESPN. Pitaro has overseen the creation of toys, apparel, home goods, publishing, and digital games, bringing to life the character of Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, and Pixar.
