Leer joined the 18th Season of the reality show singing competition American Idol which premiered on February 16, 2020, on ABC. She was shown in the “Country” category of the Genre Challenge, alongside Hannah Prestridge, Lauren Mascitti, and Alejandro Garrido. Leer sang “Unchained Melody” by The Righteous Brothers. Afterward, the judges encouraged her that she advanced. She was shown in a group with Hannah Prestridge called “Rockdale Meets Nashville”. The duo sang “Mama’s Broken Heart” by Miranda Lambert. Eventually, the judges told her she advanced and Hannah did not.
