Frederick Jamel Tipton professionally known as Freddie Gibbs is a notable American rapper from Gary, Indiana. In 2006 after initially being signed to Interscope Records, he recorded his debut album under the label. However, he has dropped off the label thus resulting in his album’s canceled. Later he signed with Young Jeezy’s CTE World and released a number of mixtapes through the label. They included 2012’s highly acclaimed Baby Face Killa.

A Career from 2004 to 2011

His rap career began in 2004 when he self-released his first full-length project, a mixtape titled Full Metal Jackit. He followed the mixtape with a sequel that same year. Around that time, he was signed to Interscope Record and began working on his debut studio album. However, in late 2006 he was dropped from the label when the man that signed him Joe Weinberger left the label. In August 2010 he released his debut EP, Str8 Killa. He continued to self-release mixtapes until when he was signed to Young Jeezy’s record label CTE World in 2011.

He announced on his website in February of that year that he had joined up with fellow rappers King Chip and The Cool Kids to form the supergroup Pulled Over by the Cops (P.O.C.). Gibbs released the mixtape Cold Day in Hell in October which featured guest appearances from Young Jeezy, Juicy J, and 2 Chainz among others. He and hip hop producer Madlib in September 2011 and June 2012 released their first and second EPs titled Thuggin’ and Shame respectively. He announced shortly after the release of Cold Day in Hell his next mixtape would be a Gangsta Grillz mixtape titled Baby Face Killa. A Career from 2012 to 2015

He announced on December 11, 2012, that he was no longer a member of Young Jeezy’s CTE label. Moreover, he elaborated that there was no beef between the two rappers. In addition, he announced on May 27, 2013, that he would be releasing his debut album ESGN (Evil Seeds Grow Naturally). The album was to be released on July 9, 2013, through his own record label of the same name. However, the album went on to be released three weeks before the planned date on June 20 due to a leak.

He and Madlib in September 2013 released the final EP from the Pinata reviews trilogy Deeper. On March 18, 2014, Pinata was eventually released. The album peaked at No. 39 on the US Billboard 200 and No. 7 on the US Top Rap Albums charts. He, ASAP Ferg, and Young Thug released a single entitled “Old English” on July 1, 2014. The single was produced by Salva and Nick Hook, it was a success as it was certified Gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) on July 23, 2020.
