Who is Emeril Lagasse?
Emeril Lagasse(Emeril John Lagasse III) is an American restaurateur, tv personality, cookbook author, and National Best Recipe award, winner. His ” Turkey” and Hot Sausage Chili made him win the 2003 recipe award.
Emeril is also a regional James Beard Award winner who is known for his mastery of Creole and Cajun cuisine and his self-developed “New New Orleans” style.
He has appeared in many cooking Tv shows including the long-running Food Network show Emeril Live and Essence of Emeril.
Emeril started his career in 1978 when he became Executive Chef at Dunfey’s Hyannis Resort soon after he graduated. After that, he was nominated as Chef of the Year in 1983. In 1982 Emeril took over from Paul Prudhomme as executive chef of Commanders Palace in New Orleans under Richard Brennan, Sr. He worked there as a leader of the kitchen for seven years then he left to open his own restaurant.
Emeril opened Emeril’s in New Orleans in 1990. The restaurant was designated ” Restaurant of the Year” in Esquire magazine that year. Since 1999, the restaurant has received the Wine Spectator Grand Award. His restaurants and corporate office, Emeril Homebase, are located in New Orleans.

During the International Space Station in August 2006, he contributed several recipes to the meal selection. The recipes were part of a general NASA effort to try and improve the quality of the food supply for astronauts. His cuisine was selected in particular in the hopes that the spicier fare would offset the reported tendency of microgravity to deaden flavors. Emeril is the owner of 13 restaurants in New Orleans, Las Vegas, Orlando, and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

After he discovered his talent in cooking he joined a culinary arts program at Diman Regional Vocation Technical High School. After that, he got a scholarship to the New England Conservatory of Music. However, Emeril decided to attend Johnson & Wales University with a dream of becoming a chef. Johnson went to Johnson & Wales in 1978. Many years down the line the school awarded him an honorary doctorate.

Great Chef was his first show to appear on television where he was featured in ten episodes including Great Chefs, the Louisiana New Garde, New Orleans Jazz Brunch, and Great Chefs-Great Cities. Emerils became the initial host of Food Network’s How To Boil Water from 1993-1995. After that Emeril hosted his own show, Essence of Emeril.
Emeril Live started production at the beginning of 1997, and therefore same year the show won the Cable Ace Award for “Best Information Show ” of 1997. In 1993 he was one of the sixteen chefs who were featured in Julia Child’s series Cooking With Master Chefs. From 2005-2006 Emeril appeared on Shop at Home Network which was owned by Scripps Networks. However, the program was later stopped after Scripps liquidated Shop at Home assets to Jewelry Television in June 2006.
Emeril also hosted a daily series called Emeril Green. The show aired on Discovery Channel’s eco-lifestyle network Planet Green. His show focused more on cooking with organic locally grown and seasonal produce. The show was filmed on location at a Whole Foods Market across the United States. Furthermore, He also hosted the weekly variety program The Emeril Lagasse Show in 2010. The show aired on Sunday on Ion Television.
After that, he hosted the Hallmark Channel show, Emeril’s Table in September 2011. However, the show was later canceled after it aired for one season. From 2013 to 2017 Emeril was hosting a cooking show Emeril’s Florida which aired for five seasons.
