Dule Hill Biography

Dule Hill is an American actor and tap dancer. He has played personal presidential aide and Deputy Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff Charlie Young on the NBC drama television series The West Wing.

He received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and pharmaceutical salesman-private detective Burton “Gus” Guster on the USA Network television comedy drama Psych. He has also had minor roles in the movies The Guardian, Holes and She’s All That and a recurring role on Ballers. It was announced in 2018 that Hill would join the regular cast of Suits for season 8, after a recurring role in season 7. Hill also serves as a member of the Screen Actors Guild Hollywood Board of Directors.

Dule Hill Early Life

Hill was born in Orange, New Jersey to Jamaican parents and raised in Sayreville, New Jersey. From an early age, he studied ballet and performed in the musical The Tap Dance Kid as Savion Glover’s understudy on Broadway. He subsequently played this part on the show’s national tour. In 1993, Hill graduated from Sayreville War Memorial High School, in Sayreville, New Jersey. He later studied business finance at Seton Hall University and acting at William Esper Studio. He accepted a role on Jim Henson’s CityKids while at Seton Hall.

Dulé in 1985 at 10 years old performed a tap dance number on the MDA telethon. When the music could not be found for his routine, telethon host Jerry Lewis helped by having the orchestra play another song while Dulé performed. Sugar Hill was his first film role. It came in 1993 during his senior year of high school. During his time at Seton Hall, he was cast in a starring role in Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk on Broadway.

Hill was cast on The West Wing as Charlie Young in 1999. He was personal aide to President Josiah Bartlet (played by Martin Sheen). Charlie became a Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff during the sixth season of the series. Hill starred as Charlie for six seasons before he chose to leave the show. He left at the beginning of the seventh season (September 2005) to star in the pilot for the new television show Psych for the USA Network which premiered July 7, 2006.

An announcement was made that The West Wing would be ending in May 2006 and Hill returned for the show’s last episodes. Hill in 1999 also had roles in She’s All That starring Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook. He later as a Los Angeles doctor named Owen reunited with Cook & Prinze in Psych in the movie and series 10.5. In the Disney movie Holes as Sam the Onion Man (the movie itself was referenced in the Psych episode “65 Million Years Off”) and in The Guardian.

From December 2011 to February 2012, Hill also has appeared on Broadway in Stick Fly. Later on in After Midnight of November 2013.

In 2019, he will be in Psych the movie 2 as Burton “Gus” Guster. From 2017 to the present, he appears in the series Suits as Alex Williams. He also had movies he did in 2017. They include; Sleight which he played Angelo. Doubt which he played Albert Cobb. In Psych the movie in 2017 he played Burton Guster. In 2015, he was in Gravy as Delroy. He also played Larry Seifert in Ballers upto date.

He has been in movies like; Gayby, Miss Dial all in 2012. Remarkable power in 2010. Whisper in 2007. The Guardian and The Numbers in 2006. In 2005, he has been inSexual Life and Edmond. In 2004, in the movie 10.5 as Dr. Owen Hunter. In 2003 Holes he played Sam. In 2000, he played Red Tail in Men Of Honor.
