He is well-known working alongside Ant McPartlin as part of the presenting Duo Ant & Dec. Moreover, he came into recognition when he starred alongside Ant in the children’s drama series Byker Grove with both of them establishing themselves successful careers as television presenters.

He began his television career at the age of 12 when his father suggested that he audition for Byker Grove, a new children’s television program being created by CBBC in Newcastle upon Tyne that had been advertised in local newspapers. Because of his success in the audition, he secured the role of Duncan where he first met Anthony McPartlin. Although he was raised in a close estate to Donnelly, McPartlin had never met him until their involvement in the children’s drama.
He and Ant worked together in the show until their departure in 1993, where they bonded as friends, both socially and professionally. After a short period in music, he and McPartlin have furthered their careers in television by becoming the presenting duo Ant & Dec. Having first appeared on a Children’s TV show ‘The Ant and Dec show’, on BBC 1 which ran for 2series, followed by a stint on Channel 4 with the edgier ‘Ant & Dec Unzipped’, The pair have continued to work in children’s television fronting ITV’s Saturday morning children’s program SMTV.
