Dave East is an American rapper and actor. In 2010, he began his career and gained attention in 2014 with his eighth mixtape, Black Rose. Its release garnered the attention of fellow New York rapper Nas who later signed Dave to his record label, Mass Appeal Records, and later in conjunction with Def Jam Recordings.

In 2016, he was chosen as part of the XXL magazine’s 2016 Freshman Class. That same year, his tenth mixtape, Kairi Chanel was released and peaked at No. 38 on the US Billboard 200. In 2017, his eleventh mixtape, Paranoia: A True Story was released. The mixtape features Nas, Wiz Khalifa, and Chris Brown amongst others, and peaked at No. 9 on the U.S. Billboard 200. A Career in College Basketball

After high school, he attended The University of Richmond and then transferred to Towson University where he played basketball. While at Towson, he had ongoing issues with the coaching staff. This ultimately led to his decision to leave the university. Shortly afterward, he started running into legal trouble in Baltimore, Maryland.

A Career from 2010-2013

He released his first mixtape Change of Plans in 2010 which gained him little recognition. Later, he released the mixtapes Insomnia, American Greed, Don’t Sleep, and No Regrets. In 2013, he periodically sold drugs throughout Harlem to support himself and his music. He then released his sixth mixtape Gemini.

A Career from 2014-2016

In 2014, his music reached the ears of rapper Nas who quickly began to look for ways to contact Dave. By the summer of 2014, he was the newest signee of Nas’ new Mass Appeal Records along with Bishop Nehru, Fashawn, Boldy James, and Ruth The Jewels. In July 2014, he released his seventh mixtape Black Rose through the label which received favorable reviews from music critics. On July 7, 2016, he participated in the freshmen cypher along with Chicago’s G Herbo hosted by Philadelphia’s very own, DJ Drama. In August 2016, he released a joint EP titled Born Broke, Die Rich with rapper Kur. The following year, he was featured on the BET Hip Hop Awards cypher alongside Young M.A., Ms. Jade, Kur, and Sam Black. A Career from 2017-2081

He made his acting debut in January 2017, starring in BET’s Being Mary Jane series. Later, he appeared in Puma’s Tsugi Shinsei commercial and starred in rapper, Trina’s “It Ain’t Me” music video. In August 2017, he released the EP, Paranoia: A True Story, supported by a few tracks such as the single “Perfect”. It featured American singer Chris Brown, “Paranoia” along with Jeezy and “Phone Jumpin” Wiz Khalifa. The EP peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200. On January 15, 2018, he dropped his 12th mixtape Paranoia 2. In February 2018, he started to network and reach endorsements that would later further his career.

That same month, he signed a sponsorship with Belaire Rose. In March 2018, he signed an endorsement deal with New Era Cap launching his new “lifestyle” 59fifty fitted collection. Shortly after his newly found endorsement, he was featured in New Era’s “Claim the Crown” commercial. On July 27, 2018, he released his 13th mixtape which was titled Karma 2. In 2019, he made his movie debut in the Netflix film Beats in which he had a supporting role as “Mister Ford”. It was confirmed in September 2019 that he would have a supporting role in the film Boogie (2021).
