A Career at UFC
While working for Ortiz and Lindell as manager, White met Bob Meyrowitz, the owner of Semaphore Entertainment Group, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. White then learned that Bob was looking to sell the UFC, he thus contacted his childhood friend Lorenzo Fertitta, an executive and co-founder of Station Casinos, and former commissioner of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The call was to ask whether he would be interested in acquiring the company. Lorenzo and his elder brother Frank acquired the UFC in January 2011 for $2 million, which subsequently became a subsidiary of Zuffa.
And thus because of a longtime friendship, White was installed as the company’s president. With White as the president, over time the UFC developed into a highly successful business and its gross revenue was $600 million in 2015. Zuffa in July 2016 was sold to a consortium of investors led by WME-IMG for $4.025 billion. Therefore, White-owned 9% of the company at the time of the sale. As he also continued his role as UFC president and was also given a stake in the new business. UFC in May 2017 announced that White would host Dana White’s Contender Series. He went on to sign a new seven-year contract on March 18, 2019, to remain the president of UFC, as the UFC signed a deal with ESPN.
