2008

On 13th October 2008, Swinney was named the interim head football coach after the resignation of head coach Tommy Bowden. He led the Tigers to 3–3 (1–2 ACC) in their first six games. Due to his expertise as a top-notch recruiter, Swinney was chosen over Vic Koenning Clemson’s defensive coordinator and Brad Scott. As the new interim head coach, Swinney fired offensive coordinator Rob Spence and introduced the “Tiger Walk”.
