Cody Lee Martin is a recognized American professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Martin played college basketball for the NC State Wolfpack and the Nevada Wolf Pack. He is the twin brother of Caleb Martin and was drafted by the Hornets in the 2nd round of the 2019 NBA draft.

High school career

Cody played basketball for prep powerhouse Oak Hill Academy with his twin brother Caleb Martin. Before joining Oak Hill the twins played 3 seasons at Davie County High School in Mocksville, North Carolina. Martin also played football during his freshman year of high school. The twins committed to North Carolina State University over Providence and Rutgers.

College career

Martin averaged 6.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game at NC State as a sophomore. After the season, the Martin twins transferred to Nevada to play for coach Eric Musselman. Following sitting out a season as a redshirt, he was named Mountain West Conference defensive player of the year. Martin then averaged 14 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game and guided the Wolf Pack to an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Following the season, the twins declared for the 2018 NBA draft without hiring an agent, hence preserving their ability to go back to college. The Martins were participants in the NBA Draft Combine the same year, but they opted to stay for their senior seasons in Nevada. Coming into his senior season, Cody was named to the Preseason MWC Team.

Professional career

Charlotte Hornets (2019-present)

Cody was picked 36th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft by his hometown team, the Charlotte Hornets. He signed with the Hornets on July 31, 2019. On October 25, 2019, Martin made his debut in NBA, coming off from the bench in a 121-99 defeat by the Minnesota Timberwolves with 4 points, 4 rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

Martin earned his first assignment to the Hornets’ NBA G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm on November 29, 2019. He averaged 5.4 points per game for the Hornets, shooting 54.5% from three-point range. He then re-signed with the Hornets on a four-year, $32 contract on July 2, 2022.
