Chris D’Elia Biography
Chris D’Elia is an American stand-up comedian, actor, podcaster, and writer. He is best known for playing Alex Miller on the NBC sitcom Whitney; Danny Burton on the sitcom Undateable, also on NBC; and Kenny on the ABC television series The Good Doctor.
While in high school, Chris started his early acting career having some guest starring parts on Chicago Hope. He attended college at New York University where he studied acting.
Chris dropped out after a year because he really did not like college. After D’elia dropped out of college, he appeared in a movie that went straight to DVD. At the time of his downtime as an actor, he started writing scripts. Chris decided to do stand-up comedy, which he had always wanted to do.
He has been doing stand-up comedy since 2006. Chris considers himself to be a stand-up comedian who acts.

D’Elia got to be featured has been featured on Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham and Comedy Central Presents as well as on Showtime’s Live Nude Comedy. He got to be introduced to a broader audience as a regular on the series Glory Daze, which ran for one season on TBS, playing “the Oracle”, William Stankowski. He was also originally only cast for the pilot but they made him a series regular. D’Elia went on co-starring in the NBC comedy series Whitney, opposite comedian Whitney Cummings for two seasons.
He was also one of three hosts of the Ten Minute Podcast, along with Bryan Callen and Will Sasso. D’Elia released a parody rap album as MC “Chank Smith,” releasing a debut album called “Such Is Life” that was produced by Mr. Green in 2013. The same year he first one-hour stand-up special, White Male Black Comic, aired on Comedy Central. It was being directed by his father. In May 2014, D’Elia was cast in the lead role of the NBC sitcom Undateable, which premiered on May 29, 2014. Bill Lawrence is the executive producer.
His show is a multi-camera sitcom with a live audience based on the book Undateable: The 311 Things Guys Do That Guarantee They Won’t Be Dating or Having Sex by Ellen Rakieten and Anne Coyle. The show as well often incorporates improv, with D’Elia playing Oscar to Brent Morin’s straight-man Felix à la The Odd Couple. The cast of the show as well includes stand-up comics who were good friends before the show. He was cast in 2015 by Bill Lawrence together with, Brent Morin, Ron Funches, and Rick Glassman on a series of the stand-up tour date to promote the show. He currently works as a director and an executive producer for the television series, Grand Hotel, which airs on ABC.

Chris imitated rapper Eminem and made fun of Eminem’s middle-aged fans on an April 2018 episode of his Congratulations podcast. He was conceding that Eminem was “one of the best rappers of all time”.
A positive reaction to that imitation led D’Elia to imitate Eminem’s rapping again in videos he posted online in September 2018 (in his car) and January 2019 (in his garage).
