 Who is Casemiro?

Casemiro fully known as Carlos Henrique Casimiro is a famous Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for La Liga club Real Madrid and the Brazil national team.

Formed at Sao Paulo, where he scored 11 goals in 11 official games, Carlos moved to Real Madrid in 2013 and spent a season on loan at Porto. Casemiro was part of the Real Madrid team that won four Champions League titles in five seasons, from 2014 to 2018. Altogether, he has won 15 major trophies at Ral Madrid, comprising 5 UEFA Champions Leagues, 3 La Liga titles, 1 Copa del Rey, and 3 FIFA Club World Cups. Club career

San Paulo

Casemiro was a product of Sao Paulo’s youth system, having been born in Sao Jose dos Campos, Sao Paulo. He served as captain to its sides from the age of 11 upwards, and was known as ”Carlao”. Casemiro was later called up for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Casemiro made his Serie A breakout on July 25, 2010, in an away loss to Santos. He scored his first goal as a professional on 15 August, assisting to a 2-2 draw with Cruzeiro Esporte Clube.

He then scored his first goal of a 2-0 victory against Mogi Mirim Esporte Clube at the Arena Barueri in that year’s Campeonato Paulista. This was after he took the place of injured Fabricio early on, but was later sent off on April 7, 2012. Sao Paulo also won the Copa Sudamericana, with the player making one substitute appearance in a 5-0 home win over Club Universidad de Chile in the quarter-final second leg on November 7.

Real Madrid

Casemiro was loaned to Real Madrid in Spain in late January 2013, being assigned to the B-team in Segunda Division. He played his first game in the competition on February 16, starting in a 1-3 loss to CE Sabadell FC. On April 20, 2013, he made his La Liga debut, playing the full 90 minutes in a 3-1 home victory against Real Betis. He then scored his first goal in Europe, opening the reserves’ 4-0 victory against AD Alcorcon at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium on June 2. After eight days, the move was made permanent for four years and a fee of R$18.738 million.

Porto

Return to Real Madrid

Casemiro went back to Real Madrid on June 5, 2015, who activated his buyback clause, and after two months his contract was extended until 2021. Following being mostly a reserve player under Rafael Benitez, he became first-choice under his successor Zinedine Zidane and contributed with 11 appearances in that season’s Champions League.
