An Amateur Career

Before turning professional, he competed at the 2003 All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria, where he captured the bronze medal in his weight division. In 2004, he represented his native Cameroon at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. However, he was beaten in the round of 16 by Egypt’s Mohamed Aly. Carlos went on to qualify for the Athens Games by winning the gold medal at the 1st AIBA African 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Casablanca, Morocco. In the decisive final of the event, he went on to defeat Angolan fighter, Georgio Cabta.

A Professional Career

An Early Career

On December 10, 2005, he made his professional debut in France, when he defeated Zine Eddine Benmakhlouf of Belgium. By the end of 2008, he went on to build p a record of 17-0. However, in June 2009, his first loss as a professional came when he lost t undefeated French prospect Gregory Tony by unanimous decision over eight rounds. Following this loss, he went on to gain four knockout wins by the end of 2010. His first fight of 2011 was against Gbenga Oluokun of Nigeria.

Carlos went on to win the bout by stoppage in the sixth round after Oluokun retired on his stool. By beating Oluokun, he picked up the vacant WBO Africa heavyweight title. On December 2, 2011, he defeated Samir Kurtagc. On March 31, 2012, he faced former world title challenger Frans Botha. There, he won the fight via knockout in the 11th round to retain his WBO Africa heavyweight title and also pick up to vacant WBF International heavyweight title. In 2012, he went on to fight two more times by defeating Thomas Mrazek and Ivica Perkovic.

On January 18, 2014, he made his HBO debut against Cuban Mike Perez. In the first five rounds, the fight started slowly with little action.
