Brian James Turner is a famous British professional chef, writer, and television personality based in London. Turner appeared as a cook on BBC2’s Ready Steady Cook from 1994. He has also appeared on many occasions on Saturday Kitchen and presented several other cookery programs.
Brian Turner Career
He was mentored by writer and broadcaster Michael Smith during his early career. Turner then trained at various hotels and restaurants, such as Simpson’s in the Strand and the Savoy Grill, both under Richard Shepherd. He later went to Beau Rivage Palace in Lausanne, returning to Britain to serve at Claridge’s and then in 1971 the Capital Hotel where he and Shepherd earned a Michelin star.
In early 1973, Turner took some time to work as a Chef Lecturer. In 1975, he took over as Chef de Cuisine after Shepherd left, and later launched the Greenhouse Restaurant and the Metro Wine Bar. Some of the Chefs who served with Tuner at the Capital were Shaun Hill and Gary Rhodes. He then opened his own restaurant Turner’s, in Walton Street, Knightsbridge, London in 1986. Brian Turner’s Restaurant opened at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Birmingham’s NEC, in February 2002.
In April 2003, he launched Brian Turner Mayfair at the Millenium Hotel, in London. January 2005, saw the launch of his Grill at the Copthorne Hotel Slough-Windsor. Brian Turner Mayfair closed at the end of July 2008, and its place was taken by an Italian restaurant unconnected to him. Turner invented the Brian Turner – S & C, which is a snack food in 2003.
