Brandon Maxwell is an eminent American fashion designer, television personality, director, and photographer from Longview, Texas, U.S. He is the founder of the luxury women’s ready-to-wear label Brandon Maxwell.
Among his clients are influential women such as Michelle Obama, Karlie Kloss, Jennifer Lawrence, Oprah Winfrey, Nicole Kidman, Jane Fonda, Viola Davis, Queen Rania of Jordan, and Kerry Washington. Maxwell acts as a judge on the 2019 re-launch of the reality television series, Project Runway on Bravo TV.
Brandon debuted in the fashion industry as a stylist. He assisted Deborah Afshani in 2009 and then followed by Nicola Formichetti in 2010. Nicola introduced him to Lady Gaga as she was Gaga’s stylist at that time. He then became Lady Gaga’s fashion director in 2012.

Brandon Maxwell’s collection opened in 2015 in the mirrored dining room of disco-era New York restaurant Mr. Chow. It was a distillation of those women he had known in his youth, combined with all the knowledge that followed from years of failures and successes, of working alongside Gaga and styling real-life magazine editorials.
The collection which has a focus on craftsmanship is entirely designed in New York City. To ensure an ideal fit, he crafts his garment by draping rather than sketching.
Maxwell revealed his Spring 2019 collection which was inspired by his fascination with cowboy culture and picturesque landscapes of the American Southwest. As a result, he generated the highest earned media value during New York Fashion Week the week following his show, ahead of Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford.
He also released his Fall/Winter 2019 Collection. This returned to a fundamental palette of black after a splash of colors in the last collection. Maxwell dressed Lady Gaga for the 2019 MET Gala- Camp: Notes on Fashion. The duo revealed four dramatic outfit changes on the red carpet. He was named Creative Director in 2021, for two “elevated” fashion brands for Walmart. In this role, he oversees four seasonal collections annually for the labels, Free Assembly and Scoop.
