High School Career
Samuel attended Boyd H. Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. He threw for 1,800 yards and rushed for 500 yards as a junior quarterback. He then focused on defense as a senior and received All-State honors, and completed his senior year with 4 interceptions and 75 tackles. New England Patriots
In the 2003 NFL Draft, Samuel was picked in the fourth round (120th overall) by the New England Patriots. They traded their 4th (128th overall) and fifth-round (157th overall) picks to the Denver Broncos in exchange for Denver’s 4th round pick (120th overall) so as to draft Samuel. He was the 16th cornerback drafted in 2003. The New England Patriots then signed him to a four-year, $1.68 million deal on June 10, 2003.
At the beginning of the 2004 season, the team’s starting corners were Ty Law and Tyrone Poole. Following both being sidelined by injuries, Asante became a starter and actually started for the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. Samuel would then begin to corner the next season, as he maintained that position for the rest of his time with the team. In 2006, the team started the season with him and Ellis Hobbs at cornerback. By the conclusion of the regular season, Asante had intercepted a career-high 10 passes, which put him in a tie in the 2006 season (with Champ Bailey of the Broncos). This mark is the second-best ever for a Patriot with Ron Hall having 11 in 1964. 2006-2007
Samuel later intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown twice in the 2006 NFL Playoffs. The first time was against the New York Jets to clinch their 1st round win and then in the AFC Championship Game over the Indianapolis Colts to extend the lead to 21-3. The Patriots then placed the franchise tag on him on February 16, 2007. Following holding out for most of the preseason, he signed the one-year $7.79 million tender on August 27, 2007, to fulfill his obligation under the franchise tag.

2008 season
Asante was considered to be among the most sought-after free agents of the 2008 NFL offseason. Within minutes of the beginning of free agency on February 29, 2008, he was reportedly already setting up a meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles. Later on in the day, Samuel signed a six-year $56 million deal with the Eagles. After signing, he was quoted saying, ”I just want to be able to win and get back to the Super Bowl.” He then made his return to New England during the third week of the preseason on August 22, 2008.
Samuel made his regular season Eagles debut against the St. Louis Rams on September 7, 2008. He was then a Pro Bowl Reserve for his stellar play with 4 interceptions and one touchdown.
